A US judge has acquitted a Baltimore police officer of all charges in the death of 25-year-old African-American Freddie Gray in 2015. Six officers were charged over the incident, but only Caesar Goodson was accused of murder. The Baltimore Circuit Judge delivered his verdict after hearing five days of testimony in the non-jury trial. Goodson was the driver of a police van, in which the handcuffed Gray broke his neck in April 2015. Gray was arrested for fleeing police officers unprovoked in a high-crime area. His death set off Baltimore's worst protests and riots in decades and stoked a debate on what is known as the U-S police brutality against people of color, most particularly African Americans. Six Officers on Trial For Freddie Grays Death FOUND NOT GUILTY US prosecutors have dropped all remaining charges against the police officers who were accused of murdering Freddie Gray, an unarmed African American. Last year, six police officers were charged with multiple crimes, including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the killing of Gray, 25, who died of a broken neck and severe spinal injuries on April 19, a week after he was taken into custody. However, Maryland state’s attorney for Baltimore Marilyn Mosby declared Wednesday that none of the officers will be punished for Gray’s death, an incident that triggered Baltimore's worst riots in decades. “We could try this case 100 times just like it and we would still end up with the same result,” Mosby said in a statement, while calling for “substantive reforms to the current criminal justice system” that would allow such cases to be resolved. Mosby said she still believes Gray's death was a homicide. “We do not believe that Freddie Gray killed himself.” According to a post-mortem analysis, Gray sustained life-threatening injuries after being slammed into the wall of a police van during the ride while being handcuffed but not restrained with a seat-belt. Initially, prosecutors had charged Officer Garrett Miller of illegally arresting Gray. He was also deemed criminally negligent for failing to buckle Gray into a seat-belt and leaving him unattended after his injuries. The decision came after three of the six police officers were already cleared from all charges. Earlier this month, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams cleared officer Caesar Goodson of a second-degree "depraved heart" murder charge in the case, the most serious accusation sought against the six officers charged in the case. Prosecutors had accused Goodson of intentionally giving Gray a "rough ride" to the police station but Judge Williams said they had not proven that he "failed corruptly" in his job rather than just making a mistake. In May, officer Edward Nero was cleared of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct in office. Moreover, a jury failed to reach a verdict in the case of officer William Porter. During the officer’s trial, prosecutors said porter ignored Gray's requests for medical help and described the police van that was carrying him as a "coffin on wheels." The US police are widely accused of using excessive force against African-Americans. Several police killings of unarmed black men and women over the past years have sparked protests nationwide, giving rise to an activist movement called Black Lives Matter. The accusation during opening statements at Officer Caesar Goodson's trial was the first time they said the driver meant to hurt Gray. His death in April 2015 touched off the worst riots in Baltimore in decades. Prosecutors say Goodson was grossly negligent when he failed to buckle Gray in or call for medical aid during the 45-minute ride during which, Goodson ran a stop sign and made a sharp right turn at such high speed that he crossed a double yellow line. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/386c25518f464186bf7a2ac026580ce7/Article_2016-06-09-US--Baltimore%20Police%20Death-Trial/id-cb55cc62b35945b089cbf086f040ecd7 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

The assistant medical examiner testified Friday in the trial of the police officer who was driving the van in which the doctor determined Gray suffered his injuries. She called Freddie Gray's death a homicide Dr. Carol Allan stated "with a reasonable degree of medical certainty" that the fatal spinal cord injury that Gray suffered was distinctive. She said it could only happen in a certain way and that it occurred while he was in the van. Her testimony is key in the prosecution's case against Baltimore Police Officer Caesar Goodson. The former police officer faces the most serious charges in a controversial case that sparked days of unrest in Baltimore and protests across the country following Gray's arrest and death in April last year. Allan said she based her opinion on her autopsy of Gray, interviews with witnesses and an examination of the van. She said Gray was placed face-down on the floor of the van with feet shackled and his hand tied behind his back. http://rss.cnn.com/r/289ef9dbd1/0L0Scnn0Bcom0C20A160C0A60C10A0Cus0Cfreddie0Egray0Etrial0Eofficer0Ecaesar0Egoodson0Cindex0Bhtml0Deref0Frss0Ius http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
