Six officers were charged over the incident, but only Caesar Goodson was accused of murder. The Baltimore Circuit Judge delivered his verdict after hearing five days of testimony in the non-jury trial. Goodson was the driver of a police van, in which the handcuffed Gray broke his neck in April 2015. Gray was arrested for fleeing police officers unprovoked in a high-crime area. His death set off Baltimore's worst protests and riots in decades and stoked a debate on what is known as the U-S police brutality against people of color, most particularly African Americans. Among the revelations: • Investigators found that Gray was mortally injured in the van and not during his arrest, a Washington television station reported, citing multiple law enforcement sources. • Police told reporters they have learned of an additional stop the van made as it was traveling to a police precinct. • An officer involved in the arrest believes Gray was injured before being put into the vehicle, according to a relative who gave the officer's account to CNN. • A second prisoner, who was picked up after Gray, told investigators that he thought Gray "was intentionally trying to injure himself, according to The Washington Post. What happened to Gray, the 25-year-old Baltimore man who suffered a severe spine injury and died one week after his arrest, has led to angry debate and protests nationwide. For the first time Thursday, Baltimore police walked with marchers and stopped traffic for them at intersections."*

Six Officers on Trial For Freddie Grays Death FOUND NOT GUILTY US prosecutors have dropped all remaining charges against the police officers who were accused of murdering Freddie Gray, an unarmed African American. Last year, six police officers were charged with multiple crimes, including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the killing of Gray, 25, who died of a broken neck and severe spinal injuries on April 19, a week after he was taken into custody. However, Maryland state’s attorney for Baltimore Marilyn Mosby declared Wednesday that none of the officers will be punished for Gray’s death, an incident that triggered Baltimore's worst riots in decades. “We could try this case 100 times just like it and we would still end up with the same result,” Mosby said in a statement, while calling for “substantive reforms to the current criminal justice system” that would allow such cases to be resolved. Mosby said she still believes Gray's death was a homicide. “We do not believe that Freddie Gray killed himself.” According to a post-mortem analysis, Gray sustained life-threatening injuries after being slammed into the wall of a police van during the ride while being handcuffed but not restrained with a seat-belt. Initially, prosecutors had charged Officer Garrett Miller of illegally arresting Gray. He was also deemed criminally negligent for failing to buckle Gray into a seat-belt and leaving him unattended after his injuries. The decision came after three of the six police officers were already cleared from all charges. Earlier this month, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams cleared officer Caesar Goodson of a second-degree "depraved heart" murder charge in the case, the most serious accusation sought against the six officers charged in the case. Prosecutors had accused Goodson of intentionally giving Gray a "rough ride" to the police station but Judge Williams said they had not proven that he "failed corruptly" in his job rather than just making a mistake. In May, officer Edward Nero was cleared of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct in office. Moreover, a jury failed to reach a verdict in the case of officer William Porter. During the officer’s trial, prosecutors said porter ignored Gray's requests for medical help and described the police van that was carrying him as a "coffin on wheels." The US police are widely accused of using excessive force against African-Americans. Several police killings of unarmed black men and women over the past years have sparked protests nationwide, giving rise to an activist movement called Black Lives Matter. The footage contradicts the driver’s claims that Freddie Gray, who died while in police custody last month, was “irate” and the search warrant’s explanation that he “continued to be combative in the police wagon.” Michelle Gross, who knew Gray, told the Baltimore Sun she handed her cellphone to a neighbor during the stop. The neighbor recorded the incident at the corner of Mount and Baker Streets. It was the first stop the driver made after officers arrested Gray at 8:39 a.m. Police pulled the van over several more times before arriving at the police station and finally requesting medical help for Gray at 9:24. Baltimore police did release security footage from the Mount-Baker intersection but the camera did not capture the van. The new video shows Gray lying completely still as several officers put shackles on his ankles. It then shows them loading him onto the van floor head first. The video raises fresh questions about the officers’ handling of the incident and their motive for shackling him in the first place. Freddie Gray died from his injuries on April 19, sparking nationwide protests. Baltimore prosecutor Marilyn J. Mosby said the arrest was illegal. But a lawyer for one of the officers said they did nothing wrong, the Wall Street Journal reported. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Reuters has reported that the U.S. Department of Justice will not bring charges against Baltimore police officers over the fatal injury of a black man in custody in an incident that stoked tensions between African Americans and law enforcement. A Justice Department criminal civil rights investigation into the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray has found “insufficient evidence” for any charges. Gray was arrested in April 2015 and suffered a fatal spinal injury while being transported in a police van. His death was one of several incidents in recent years in U.S. cities, such as Ferguson, Missouri, that sparked a nationwide debate about the use of excessive force by police, especially against black men. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/CFPCm6IdOsE/no-federal-charges-for-baltimore-cops-in-freddie-grays-death-idUSKCN1BN2V0 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

A US judge has acquitted a Baltimore police officer of all charges in the death of 25-year-old African-American Freddie Gray in 2015.
